The Movement
What is TEAM SAMOA? TEAM SAMOA is a fitness movement whose goal is to promote wellness among Samoans young and old. TEAM SAMOA is centered on large city marathon events that offer activities for every skill level: kids fun run, 5K run/walk, wheelchair race, bike tour, half-marathon, and marathon. These marathon events let us all train together for the same race day.
Why TEAM SAMOA? Recent reports remind us that Samoans have a higher-than-average incidence of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and childhood obesity. The strategy of this movement is to take advantage of “strength through culture.” We’re a family-based, collectivist culture; we do for our family and our village before doing for ourselves, so taking a “team” approach to wellness is a great fit!
Who is TEAM SAMOA? TEAM SAMOA is our families (the ones you’re born into and the ones you choose), our friends, our co-workers, anyone who has the Samoa spirit of oneness!
When is TEAM SAMOA?
Our first run of 2012 at Rynerson is cancelled due to heavy rain in Southern California. Stay tuned for a possible re-scheduled run.
